Brigitte Lacombe photographs the actor’s preshow rituals.

Brigitte Lacombe came to the theater and took these shots backstage at True West. She was a long time friend of Sam Shepard’s — she took the iconic photos of him for his play collections, as well as many others. I’m grateful to her eye for capturing these memories. Especially grateful for the friendship of Paul Dano.
